About Intrepid Civil & Marine

Formed in 2018 by Mr. Conor Holmes and Mr. Kelly Glass, Intrepid started as a piling company based in Grenada with modular barge measuring 35 x 14 metres, two smaller barges and associated cranes and piling hammers. Intrepid was then engaged by Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority (AASPA) to build the New Port at Road Bay in Anguilla which was 450 piles, 3,500 cubic metres of in-site jetties. This project started during covid and was completed in very challenging conditions on time and on budget. The team then commenced works in La Suggess for the piling of the foundations for the Intercontinental hotel plus was engaged to undertaking dredging for Grenada Ports.

Intrepid then worked with AECON to extend the sewerage outfall in St Vincent which required extensive works with divers, concrete mattresses and laying of the pipes from barges in the St Vincent Port. Upon completion of these works, the team moved to place the king piles, quay wall, tie rods and anchor wall installation which required the use of a 280t crane, S200 hammer amongst other smaller piling equipment. The barge and team was then deployed to drive the piles for Sandals Over Water Suites in Buccament Bay which involved the maneurving of the barges and driving the piles up to one inch thick from the barges.

As well as piling and dredging works across the Caribbean, Intrepid has been engaged in a number of design and build marina projects. The latest project is to design and build a 105 berth marina in Dominica. This requires engineering of the marina, procurement of equipment for the marina, dredging of the area, construction of the breakwaters and then the build of the marina for handover to the client in early 2027.

Intrepid has grown from a small piling company to being able to provide design, procure and build large scale projects across the Caribbean. It also offers a number of other services such as dredging, equipment rental and equipment procurement services.

Meet Our Founder

Conor Holmes

Mr Conor Holmes started Intrepid Civil and Marine (ICM)  in 2018 after working for five years for K Group with a mandate to grow the marine construction business after the successful completion of Clarkes Court Marine and Boatyard in Grenada. Conor then purchased the initial equipment to start Intrepid including barges, cranes and hammers and this was deployed on the first large project to build the New Port at Road Bay Anguilla. This was particularly challenging as this project was started during covid but was completed on time and budget and signed off by the client, Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority. Conor then returned to Grenada and was engaged by Range to complete the piling for the Intercontinental Hotel in La Suggess in Grenada, along with various Grenada Port Projects including dredging and piling. Expanding the business, Conor and team then worked with AECON on the St Vincent Port redevelopment and completed the sewerage outfall and the installation of the king piles and quay wall for the main port. In addition, the team then completed the piles for the over water suites at Sandals Buccament Bay in St Vincent.

Working with Range, Conor then designed and is currently building the marina in Dominica which consists of dredging over 300,000 cubic metres of material plus development of the breakwaters and ultimately the build of the marina for 105 boats including megayachts. This is expected to be complete early 2027.

Conor has been involved with piling for over three decades and has piling experience in Africa, Americas and the Caribbean and has grown the business to be able to do multiple projects with multiple skilled teams across a number of countries simultaneously.
